Jazmin Black

Grollemund

A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jazmin Black Grollemund earned her bachelor’s degree in vocal performance at Furman University. In 2011, Jazmin won the Frederica von Stade Masterclass Competitions and shared the concert stage with the world-renowned mezzo-soprano.

 

After completing her master’s degree at the prestigious Maryland Opera Studio, Jazmin earned a Perfectionnement Diploma at the Conservatoire de Versailles. In 2015, Jazmin’s performance at the International Singing Competition of Vivonne, France garnered both first and Audience Choice Prize. In November of 2017, Jazmin was presented with the Cite de la Voix prize at the International Singing Competition in Mâcon, France. 

 

During the 2013 Festival Lyrique International de Belle-ile-en-Mer in Brittany, France Jazmin made her European operatic debut as Nedda in I Pagliacci under the musical direction of Philip Walsh. In 2016, she returned to the festival stage as Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte. Her opera repertoire includes Mimì in La Bohème, Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Pamina and Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, and Flora in La Traviata.

 

Jazmin debuted the role of Ulrike Meinhof in Evan Meier’s opera The Last Act of the Revolution. The following year, composer Joel Pierson invited her to record the first performance of his Afternoon on a Hill. Pierson’s recording won second place at the New York Philharmonic’s 2017 New World Initiative Composition Competition. In January 2018, Jazmin accepted award-winning composer Mark Kilstofte’s invitation to perform in his song cycle, The White Album

Currently, Jazmin collaborates with the Franco-British Ensemble 1904, as well as the lyrique-caberet ensemble D.I.V.A. She has performed in numerous European venues, including the Sala Biała in Poznan, Poland, Theatre Montparnasse and L’Olympia in Paris, and the Royal Albert Hall in London.
